THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, August 10, 2005.

Earl Jennings Ritland, 92, of Story City, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland. Burial will be in Roland Cemetery.

Earl Ritland was born Jan. 11, 1913, to Lewis and Malinda (Helvin) Ritland in Roland. He graduated from Roland High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1935-39. He was a lifelong member of Bergen Lutheran Church. He married Helen E. Jacobsen on March 25, 1944. He farmed and worked at Ames Lab for 24 years, retiring from there in 1979.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, of Story City; two sons, David Ritland of Minneapolis and Roger Ritland of San Francisco; one daughter, Nancy (Lyle) Moeller of Story City; one brother, Obed (Elnora) Ritland of rural Roland; one sister, Esther (Robert) Risdal of Roland; one sister-in-law, Rachael Ritland of Des Moines; and four grandchildren, Matthew Moeller, Sara Moeller, Brian Moeller and Nathan Moeller.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Carroll and Lloyd Ritland; and one sister, Alice Anderson.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home in Story City with the family present after 6:30 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to Bergen Lutheran Church or Bethany Manor.
