C. F. Rasmussen Nevada Resident Died Suddenly

C. F. Rasmusson, 86, for nearly three score years a resident of or near Nevada, died at his home, 808 Lincoln avenue, Monday evening at 9:30.

Death came very suddenly. While he had been in failing health for the past two years, he had been up and about the house during the day and early evening, visiting with members of the family and attending to some business matters.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 at the Methodist Episcopal church of which he was a longtime member and burial will be in the Nevada cemetery by the side of his wife who passed away November 2, 1922.

Mr. Rasmusson was a man of very pleasing personality, honest, industrious and of the finest integrity and had a wide circle of friends, not only in Nevada but more especially in the Johnson Grove neighborhood, where he lived so long and took an active part in the development of the community.

He was one of the workers in the organizing and building of the Johnson Grove Methodist church and one of his last visits to that community was to attend an anniversary observance there in the autumn.

He served the community in township and school district affairs and left fine record in that line of work.

Chris F. Rasmusson was a native of Denmark, where he was born November 17, 1851. He came to America in 1873, settling first at Marshalltown. There he was married to Miss Mary Olsen, to which union ten children were born. She died at the family home in Nevada in 1922.

They came to Story county in 1879, settling on a farm southwest of Nevada, where they lived for two years and then, in the spring of 1881, they located on what became the Rasmussen homestead in Johnson Grove, northeast of Nevada, where the family home continued until October of 1919, when they retired and moved to Nevada, locating in the home on Lincoln avenue, where the wife died.

Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Rasmusson, all of them surviving the parents. They are William and Elmer Rasmusson of Des Moines, Mrs. Ella Kline and Mrs. Stena Kline of Iowa Falls, Mrs. Emma Kearns of Auburn, Neb., Mrs. E. D. Allen of near Nevada, Mrs. W. L. Thomas of near Zearing, W. C. and C. E. of near Zearing and Anna at home.

The daughter Anna remained in the family home and cared for the fathers in his declining years, although the other members of the family were close and were frequently at home.

While living upon the farm, the family attended the Johnson Grove church in which they had a warm personal interest, but after moving to Nevada they became affiliated with the Methodist church, in which the deceased took a very active interest. He was a member of the Men's Brotherhood class of the Sunday school and as long as his health permitted was faithful in his attendance at Sunday school and church.

Besides the ten sons and daughters, Mr. Rasmusson is survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren and a wide circle of very warm friends.
