Funeral Service at Zearing for George Wohlheter

Zearing, Feb. 13--Funeral services for George Wohlheter were held Tuesday afternoon at the Church of Christ in Zearing, with Rev. George Manning, pastor of the church, officiating. The beautiful flowers were cared for and arranged by Mrs. L. P. Herr and Mrs. Guy Clatterbuck. The vocal numbers were by a mixed quartet, Mrs. Jerry Hankins, Mrs. Russell Golly, Dale Johnston and Frank Perry. Mrs. T. G. Lundy was the pianist. The pallbearers were L. P. Herr, George Eley, W. W. Carver, E. F. Moore, Frank Tett and R. B. Comfort. Burial was in Zearing cemetery beside his wife, who passed away about two years ago.

George Washington Wohlheter was born Mar. 7, 1858 at Elgin, Ia., son of Fredrick and Magdalene Wohlheter and departed this life Feb. 3, 1940, at his home in Zearing at the age of 81 years, 11 months and 3 days.

Four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Klock at Auburn, Ia. Sept. 29, 1878. She preceded him in death on Nov. 1, 1937.

They made their home at Elgin a few years, then settled on a farm in northwestern Iowa until 1891 when he move to Zearing, where he engaged in the hardware business with his father. Mr. Wohlheter was a member of the Church of Christ, active in civic, social and church work. He leaves to mourn his departure, two nephews, Walter Wohlheter of California and Judge V. G. Wohlheter of Watertown, S. Dak.; also an aunt Mrs. Walter Dollen of Fairmont, Minn. Mrs. George Smith, a sister of Mrs. Wohlheter, made her home with them for a number of years and assisted in caring for them in their last illness.

Mr. Wohlheter was a kind friend an neighbor and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Relatives from a distance attending the rites were his nephews, Vern G. Wohlheter of Watertown, S. D., Mrs. Nell Smith of Marion, N. Dak., Mrs. Arlie Bray and daughter, Mrs. Lucille Abel of Fayette, Charles Bray of Waukon, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Smith of McCallsburg and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Callan of Cedar Rapids.
