Longtime Resident Collins Neighborhood Died There Tuesday

Special to the Journal:
Collins, Sept. 22--Mrs. Alice Woten, 79, died at her home southwest of Collins at 9 a. m., Tuesday, after having been confined to her bed for about three weeks, although she had been failing in health for some months.

Mrs. Woten, widow of Abraham Woten who died in 1918, was born in Jasper county, south of Collins, November 30, 1858, a daughter of Jasper and Marian Reagan-Bates. She grew to womanhood in that community where she was married November 21, 1907, to Abraham Woten, who died June 30, 1917. She spent her entire married life in Collins, but subsequent to the death of her husband she went back to keeping house for her brother Sherman Bates, southwest of here.

She leaves three sisters and three brothers.

The sisters are Mrs. Victoria Smith of Collins, Mrs. Minnie Holmes of southwest of Collins and Mrs. Ursula Beddell of Hastings, Neb.

The brothers are Sherman and Grant Bates of near Collins and John Bates of Hobart, Oklahoma.

Mrs. Woten had long been a member of the Methodist Protestant church.

Funeral services will be held at the Collins Church of Christ Thursday afternoon at 2:00, with Rev. C. R. Neel in charge. Interment will be in the Evergreen cemetery at Collins.
