Mrs. O. P. Abbey Died Early Today; Funeral at Zearing

Special to the Journal:
Zearing, Sept. 20--Mrs. Margaret Abbey, 65, wife of Mayor O. P. Abby and long-time resident of the community, died at St. Thomas Mercy hospital in Marshalltown early today, from the effects of a stroke of apoplexy suffered Sunday afternoon. She had been ill two weeks and was taken to the hospital on Saturday. Her only daughter, Mrs. Henning Larson of Osceola was at her bedside during her last hours.

The funeral services will be held on Wednesday with prayer at the home at 2:00, followed by the service at the church at 2:30, in charge of the pastor, Rev. Kearney.

Mrs. Abbey had been an active worker in the church since coming here in 1898. A member of the various auxiliary societies, she was also an active member of the Zearing Cemetery society, of Zearing O.E.S. chapter and of the O.E.S. Improvement society.

Born Margaret Terpening in Illinois January 11, 1872, he was married to O. P. Abby February 20, 1895 at Cropsey, Illinois.

They came out to Zearing in the spring of 1898 and settled on a farm where they lived for some years, after which they retired and located in Zearing, where the family home had since been.

She leaves besides her husband and the daughter, Mrs. Larson, a son Jesse Abbey of Zearing, three grandchildren and two sisters, the latter of Illinois.
