THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, August 3, 2005.
Richard "Dick" Sharp, 75, of Ames, died Monday, Aug. 1, at Israel Family Hospice House. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at Adams Funeral Home, with the Rev. Henrietta Klarenbeek officiating. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery.
Richard "Dick" Sharp was born March 2, 1930, in Milford Township, Ames, to John Henry and Clara Ann (Oakland) Sharp. He married Leila "Lee" Houge Sept. 30, 1961, in Sioux Falls, S.D. He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Ames.
He attended Nevada schools, and was in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked for Story County Roads from 1954 to 1960. He owned and operated floor service from 1960 to 1970. He and his wife started Lee's Security Agency in 1970 and operated it for more than 30 years before retiring in 2001. His hobbies included woodworking, refinishing old furniture, flea markets, auctions, fishing and boating.
He was survived by his wife; Leila "Lee" Sharp of Ames; one son, Gene (Jean) Angell of Iowa City; one daughter, Cindy (Terry) Janda of Gares, Tenn.; two grandsons, Jason and Brian Angell of Gilbert, Ariz.; and four brothers, Milford Sharp of Duluth, Minn., Max Sharp of Hampton, Fred Sharp of Ames and LeRoy Sharp of Ames.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Jene and Jolene; four sisters; and two brothers.
Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home in Ames.
