Funeral Services for Elias Mason, Pioneer
Special to the Journal:
Slater, Feb 13--Funeral service for Elias M. Mason of Cambridge were held Tuesday afternoon at the Duckworth Funeral Home in Ames.The services were in charge of Rev. Peter Buland of Cambridge. Rev. E. R. Rorem of Slater offered prayer at the close of the service. R. Smith of Ames sang two solos: "In the Garden" and "No Night There." Beautiful floral tributes covered the casket.
The pallbearers were: H. R. Sheldahl, Will Baker and Will Norris of Ames, Peter Apland, Ole and Andrews Fjelland of Huxley. Interment was made in the Ames cemetery where his wife is buried.
Elias M. Mason was baptised and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Palestine church. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Mason, Sr. who preceded him in death. His marriage to Miss Martha Skola took place in 1900. They made their home on the Mason homestead near Cambridge.
One son, Thurlow, was born to this union. In the year 1913 Mr. Mason's health began to fail and he gave up farming. The family moved to Ames where they lived until the death of his wife.
He is survived by his son, Thurlow M. Mason of Winnebago, Minnesota, also three grandchildren, Marilyn, Madelyn and Jim.
Two brothers, A. M. and C. M. Mason of Cambridge, two sisters, Mrs. A. G. Rayness and Mrs. A. L. Peterson of Slater, besides numerous relatives and friends.
Mr. Mason was a member of one of the oldest pioneer families in Story county.
