Joe Brooks Dead; Funeral Services Monday Afternoon

Joseph E. Brooks, 79, died early today at his home 824 Seventh street after an illness of several days which he suffered from influenza and other complications. Death came at 8:30 a. m. today.

Funeral services will be held at the home Monday afternoon, January 25, at 2:00 o'clock, after which burial will be in the Nevada cemetery. The services will be in charge of Rev. J. D. Klooz of the Nevada Evangelical church.

Mr. Brooks, for many years a resident of Nevada, was well known and his death comes as a surprise to many people who had little knowledge of the serious condition of his health.

Joseph E. Brooks was born in Coburg, Canada, October 12, 1857, and passed away in Nevada Jan. 23, 1937, aged 79 years, 3 months and 10 days. In early life he accompanied his parents to Stoughton, Wis., where he grew to manhood and received his educational training. He came to Nevada in 1876 where he was joined in marriage to Miss Mary J. Lawman Feb. 12, 1878.

This union was blessed with two daughters, Violet who died April 22, 1904, and Ella, Mrs. Lough of Nevada. The wife died Jan. 27, 1917. He was again married on March 13, 1924 to Mrs. Nancy L. Smith Oxley who survives him.

In earlier years he was confirmed and became a member of the Lutheran church. While not a regular attendant in church service still he enjoyed the company and a visit of a pastor and interested in soul salvation.

For 35 years he was caretaker on the Nevada cemetery and the past 10 years was in the real estate business.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, his daughter Mrs. Ella Lough, 2 grandchildren, Jane and Betty Lough, 1 brother, Ed Brooks of Beloit, Wis., and one sister Mrs. Mary Dow of Syracuse, N. Y.
