OBITUARY
MRS. CARTHA BRYSON
Mrs. Cartha Allen Bryson, a pioneer resident of Nevada and a frequent visitor here through the passing years at the home of her cousin, M. C. Allen, died Sunday evening in the hospital at Iowa Falls after a brief illness with pneumonia. She was here two weeks ago Saturday to celebrate her 72nd birthday and she continued in the school work in which she had long been engaged at Garden City to Monday of last week. She was a woman, bright, independent, much respected and loved and a source of many very interesting pioneer tales. Her father, Samuel Allen was a brother of the late W. G. Allen of this city and an uncle of M. C. Allen; but he died long years befor the civil war in Ohio, and it was as members of the family of their step-father Samuel Gossard that she and her brother, William V. Allen, twice United States senator from Nebraska, came to Nevada in 1857, and they lived in one of the little old houses that yet remain on Pine street between 4th and 5th avenues south. They remained here for several years but then moved away and retuned thereafter only as visitors. She was married and had three sons and two daughters, all of whom survive, although her husband has been dead these many years. Her children are Cassius and Boyd, attorneys of Iowa Falls, Ralph of Waterloo and Mesdames Nona Surtevand [should be Ivanona Sturdevant] of St. Louis and Winna [Edwinna] Coulter of Los Angeles. All of them, as well as her brother the ex senator, and her cousins from Nevada, will be at the funeral Wednesday at Iowa Falls.
