OBITUARY
MRS. ALVIN BATES
Mrs. May Bates, wife of Alvin Bates, died at their home near the north school house Wednesday evening after an illness in which partial resources had alternated with relapses, due to dilation of the heart. On account of her illness two of her sisters had come, and on account of her improvement one of them had returned home, when she grew materially worse and finally dropped away.
Mrs. Bates was May Guthrie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Guthrie, and she was born May 24, 1858. She died November 15, 1916, aged 58 years, 5 months and 12 days. She had been married about nineteen years, and her home during the most of her married life and for several years before her marriage had been in this city. She was a woman who met capably her responsibilities in life and was much esteemed where she was known. Her funeral was conducted this morning from the Catholic church by Father Nichols.
Mrs. Bates is survived by her husband, one brother and three sisters. Her parents both lived to a ripe old age but died four and five years ago. The brother is Albert J. Guthrie of Murdow, South Dakota and the sisters are Mrs. H. C. Chandler of Clyde, Ohio; Mrs. Geo. Raine of Minneapolis, and Mrs. John Stevens [should be Stephens] of Boynton, Oklahoma. Mrs. Chandler and Mrs. Raine came here during her illness, and the former is still here but will leave for home Saturday.
