State Center Enterprise, February 20, 1958

Alvin H Hartwig, 53, a well known State Center farmer and a life long resident of this community, passed away late Monday afternoon at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines where he had been a patient for about five weeks. Mr. Hartwig took suddenly ill while in Nevada on business on January 7th. He was taken to the Story County Hospital there and then transferred to the Des Moines hospital. His condition was guarded as serious during all of this time although he showed some improvement at times.

He was born September 16, 1905 in State Center, the son of Henry and Minnie Smith Hartwig. He received his early education in State Center, and attending St. John's parochial school. He was confirmed in St. John's Lutheran church. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

He was united in marriage to Lorraine White of Colo on May 14, 1931. The couple were the parents of five children.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by two sons and two daughters; Henry andWilliam at home, Mrs. Kathleen Crane of Oceanside, California and Mary at home. Also surviving is his aged mother, Mrs Minnie Hartwig; two sisters, Mrs. Harold Nolta of State Center and Mrs. Dwight Eggers of Monmouth, Illinois; and three grandchildren, Roxanne Hartwig of State Center, Lance and Candace Crane of Oceanside, California.

He was preceded in death by his father, a sister, Alma and a son Ross, who was killed during the Korean war overseas while serving his country with the U.S. Marines.

Funeral services were held today, Thursday at theTrinity Lutheran Church in charge of the Rev. Karl J. Baumgart. Interment was in Hillside cemetery.
