Obituary of John Berger [sic]

John Berger [sic] was born in Germany March 6, 1843 and died in Colo at the home of his daughter Mrs. Maggie Berger [sic] Jan. 16, 1914, aged 70 years and 10 months. While still a boy he came to America with his parents who settled at Hagerstown, Maryland, where in 1867 he was married to Miss Julia Hartman (who passed away from this life about six weeks ago). Seven children were born to them, one daughter and two sons passed away at an early age. Mr. and Mrs. Berger [sic] and children moved to Colo in March 1877. Mr. Berger [sic] was confirmed in the Lutheran church in Germany and after coming to America had his membership transferred to the Lutheran church at Hagerstown. Mr. Berger [sic] has bee sorely afflicted for more than thirty years and his family was deprived of his society until a few weeks ago when his condition permitted his return home, where he was tenderly cared for by his daughters who did all that love an willing hands could to relieve his suffering and add to his happiness. He leaves to mourn his loss four daughters: Mrs. Maggie Berger, Mrs. Katie Wright and Miss Lizzie Berger of Colo, Mrs. Emma Hinecker and one grandson Clarence Russell of Macoun, Saskatchewan, Canada and one nephew John Berger and a sister in law in Hagerstown, Md. Numerous friends sympathize with the bereaved ones. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. J. E. Habliston. Interment was made in the Colo cemetery.
