TWO ROLAND PIONEERS

John Danielson and Mrs. Siri Watney

Roland has lost during the week two of its oldest and best esteemed pioneers John Danielson died there on Sunday and Mrs. Siri Watney on Tuesday. His age was not quite 82, and hers was a little short of 93. Both were natives of Norway and each came to this country in an early day. Both knew the privations of pioneering, and each seems to have enjoyed the fruits of successful industry. His funeral was conducted from Bergens church and hers from Salems church, and for each there was all the honor due to one who has lived a long, worthy and useful life.

Mr. Danielson was born at Sevde, Norway, February 2, 1835, emigrated as a young man to Illinois, came on to Story, married Lena Britson at Roland and settled down on a farm in Milford township, where he lived until he was ready to retire and move to Roland. He was a prosperous and representative farmer in his neighborhood, and he is survived by his wife, his sons Nathan and Johannes and his daughters, Mesdames A. A. Hereim and Ben Thompson.
