THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Monday, July 25, 2005.
Beverly Ray, 83, of Slater, died Saturday, July 23, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Services are at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Slater, with Rev. Heidi Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Slater Municipal Cemetery.
Beverly Ray was born on May 13, 1922, in Slater to Walter and Myrtle (Dueland) McBride. She was a lifetime resident of Slater. Bev married Ralph Harold Ray on May 17, 1943, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, Friendship Club, Hope Circle and Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 160. Bev was a homemaker and worked at the Slater Creamery for 10 years and 20 years as a lab technician for HACH Chemical, Ames. She retired in 1992. Bev played the piano, enjoyed reading, playing cards, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter; Steve (Tina) Ray of Slater and Dennis (Bonnie) Ray of Marshalltown, Patty (Mike) Barker of Ralston, Neb.; seven grandchildren, Jeff (Kim) Ray, Jennifer (Steve) Erickson, Michael (Nicole) and Adam Ray, and Josh, Andy and Christopher Barker; five great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Art Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; a brother, Paul McBride, and a sister, Lucille Nelson.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, at Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Slater Area Pool,
or Slater Library.
