OBITUARY

LESTER SMITH

Lester Smith, eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Smith of this city, died Saturday forenoon in the hospital at Sioux City, where he had recently undergne an operation for appendicitis. His home was at Crofton, Nebraska, where he had his headquarters as a railroad engineer; but he had gone to Sioux City when he became seriously ill. The operation there revealed a very serious condition and his parents were summoned from Nevada, they as well as his wife being with him at the end. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the residence in Sioux City of his sister-in-law Mrs. Yeomans and there will be funeral services this afternoon at Clinton where interment will take place and where the widow and son will probably make their home with her father.

The deceased was born at St. John, Kansas, December 5, 1878, and died as stated at Sioux City, Iowa, July 11, 1914, aged 35 years, 7 months and 6 days. Prior to his birth his parents had been residents of Story county and when he was less than two years old they returned here. He grew up principally in Milford township, attending school in that township and Ames. When he had become a young man he started in railroading, in which occupation he --- ------ during his life. He was ------ ---- Sioux City in 1904 to Miss Alice Jencks, who with the one son survives him. Other surviving relatives besides his parents are his brother Harry and sisters Mrs. Sherk, Mrs. Nelson and Miss Vivian. He was a man of ------ and ---------- and his death was a sad blow to all who were close to him. His funeral at Sioux City was ----- to a special ----d of railroad ----ds from Clinton.
