Funeral Services For Mrs. Munson

Slater, Dec. 19--Funeral services for Mrs. A. A. Munson were held at the Riis Funeral home and at two o'clock at the Bethlehem church last Sunday afternoon, Dec. 17. The services were in charge of Rev. E. R. Rorem. The many beautiful floral offering were arranged by Mrs. C. A. Larson and Mrs. Kermit Granseth. Sums of money given to the missions in memory of Mrs. Munson were from A. A. Munson and son Robert, Marie Munson and the Heinier Peterson family of Newark, Ill., and Miss Josie Ryg. Miss Gladys Estrem sang "In The Garden." The Riis quartette sang "Have Thine Own Way" and "That Beautiful Land." The pall bearers were A. D. Johnson, A. M. Robins, C. L. Johnson and S. B. Lande, all of Ames, M. S. Heggen and W. E. Walker. Interment was made in the Bethlehem cemetery.Bertha Helene Birkeland was born in Newark, Ill., Aug. 7, 1874 and died at her home in Slater Dec. 13, 1939 at the age of 65 years, 4 month and 6 days. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Birkelund. She grew to womanhood in that community. Her marriage to Albert A. Munson took place in 1898. Thy made their home in Maxwell a brief period and then moved to Slater in 1902 where they have since made their home. Mrs. Munson was active in the church and social circles of this community until her illness caused a stroke confined her to her home the later part of the time. She was a devoted an loving wife and mother and a faithful friend. She is survived by her husband and son Robert, one sister Mrs. H. Peterson of Newark, Ill., two brothers, Andrew Birkelund of Baton Rouge, La., and Lewis Birkelund of Denton, Mont.
Among those from a distance attending the services were: two cousins Mrs. George Sampson and Miss Caroline Langman of Plano, Ill., a niece, Miss Marie Peterson of Newark, Ill., a nephew Harold Johnston and Donald Carpenter of Lisbon, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Robins, Mrs. C. Heggem, Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Lande of Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Coon of Adel, Mrs. Elmer Soderland of Madrid, Mrs. Walter Wittick of Cambridge, Miss Kathryn Nervig of Linden, Miss Mary Sydness of Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Waters of Des Moines, Wayne Hildreth, Clifford Sween, Wayne Hildreth, jr., Harry Roboson and Joe Mitchock of Rhodes; Mrs. Jacob Ersland of Ames, Mrs. Randolph Peterson of Sheldahl and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hedlund of Alleman.
