Funeral Services Held at Whiting for Mrs. Darrel Hubbard

Collins, April 7--The body of Mrs. D. W. Hubbard, 27, Collins woman who died at Iowa Lutheran hospital, Des Moines, Wednesday, March 29, was taken to the home of her parents at Whiting, where funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2:00/

The death of Mrs. Hubbard, popular young Collins wife and mother, came as a blow to the community. Collins people who were at Whiting for the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Tomlinson, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Westcott, Mr. and Mrs. Sid Atkinson, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Cummings, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Oswalt, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Williams, Mr. and Mrs. P. D. Ozmun, Mr. Fred Rahfeldt and Mr. and Mrs. James Oswalt and Mrs. Earl Battles.

The following brief sketch of the life of the deceased was read at the funeral:

"Mary Delilah, the third child in the family of Charles and Mary Persinger, was born July 19, 1911, at Emerson, Neb. She spent her childhood there, and in North Dakota, and in 1923 the family moved to Whiting.

"In January 1924, Lila became a member of the Whiting Church of Christ. She loved the young peoples' activities of the church and of the community and did much to promote worthwhile ideals and purposeful character in her group. After graduating from high school in 1929 she entered nurses' training at Methodist hospital in Sioux City but resigned her duties there to become the bride of her girlhood sweetheart, Darrel Hubbard, on Sept. 26, 1931. A son, Ronald came to them on Dec. 10, 1935, but the mother was called to her eternal home March 29, 1939.

The following tribute expresses the love and sympathy of her many friends at Collins:

"In the summer of 1932 Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Hubbard moved to Collins and within a short time had won the esteem and love of all with whom they came in contact and were known to all as Darrel and Lila. They transferred their church membership to the Collins Church of Christ in the early fall of 1932 and had been devoted church workers since. Mrs. Hubbard was an active and efficient worker in the choir, teaching staff of the Sunday school, Sec'y-treas. of the church board, a faithful worker of the Willing Workers and was president of Womens Missionary society. Just last week she made all plans for the Boone-Story County Missionary convention, which was held at Collins Thursday, March 30.
