Funeral Services Held at Colo for Tillman A. Smith

Colo, March 30--Funeral services for the late Tillman M. Smith was held from the Calvary Evangelical church at 2 o'clock on Sunday afternoon, March 26. The funeral sermon was in charge of the Rev. E. C. Boom local pastor. The many beautiful flowers was in charge of Mrs. H. E. Ransom and Mrs. C. W. Yeager. Pall bearers were Ross White, Ray Perry, Chas. Reed, C. M. Yeager, Clyde Templeman and A. B. Perry. Charlie Hall, of Nevada playing his own accompaniment at the piano, sand beautiful numbers. Relatives attending from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. O. G. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hull, Mr. and Mrs. Rogers, Howard and Tillman Smith, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Smith, son Max, Rev. and Mrs. Stewart all of Cedar Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Mullen, Mrs. Bertha Tillman and son George all of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Logan Olinger, Mr. and Mrs. Clark John, Mr. and Mrs. Smith all of Maxwell, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hix of Zearing, Misses Isabelle Danskin and Annabelle Lounsberry of Columbia, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Lounsberry of Detroit, Michigan, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Arthurholt and John Lounsberry Jr. of Cedar Falls, Miss Gladys Lounsberry of Jefferson.

Tillman Martin Smith, son of Ruben and Sally Smith, was born in North Hampton county, Pennsylvania, April 29th, 1856, died March 24th, 1939, age 82 years, ten months and 25 days. When three weeks old, he moved with his parent to Lena, Ill., where lived until he was ten years old. From there he came with his parents to Colo, Iowa, and settled on a farm just south of town. When a young man he united with the United Evangelical church and was so affiliated all his life. In 1882 he married Sarah Matilda Mullen. To this union were born four children, namely Ruben, Oak, Ethel and Annabelle, all of whom survive excepting Ethel who passed away in November, 1919. On December 29, 1922, his wife departed this life. On August 19, 1930 he was united in marriage to Miss Fannie Brand of Colo, Iowa. They made their home on a farm south of Colo until the death of the latter, which occurred November 13, 1935. He continued to live on the farm until last October, when he moved to Colo, and lived until his death. Thus passes another of Story county's pioneer and good neighbor, a good citizen, a man who walked upright in the rights of God and man, an his life will continue to be an example of righteousness in this community.
