Funeral Services Held at Zearing for Ora E Sparrow

Zearing, Jan. 16--The Evangelical church in Zearing was filled to capacity with sympathizing friends at the funeral services for Ora E. Sparrow, Wednesday afternoon, Rev. George W. Manning officiating and Rev. R. E. Kersey assisting.

Interment was in the Zearing cemetery. The pall bearers were Martin Mehlisch, Ray Ballinger, Robert Comfort, Harvey Lewis, Russell Carver and Blayney Johnston.

Three vocal selections in quartette arrangements were sung by Dale Johnston, Mrs. Orpha Hankins, Mrs. Mary Golly and Frank Perry, accompanied at the piano by Miss Alice Holub. The flowers which were many and beautiful were arranged by Mrs. Earl Allen and Mrs. Louis Bowie.

Relatives and friends from a distance in attendance at the rites were, Mrs. Sparrow's uncle J. N. Austin, Bucklin, Kan.; her aunt, Mrs. Harriett Marriage, Mullenville, Kan; her brother P. S. Austin of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. B. O. Weaver, Mullinville, Kan.; Mrs. R. J. Olson, Oak Park, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Marshman, Bob and Blaine Marshman all of Ellsworth; Miss Nellie Johnston, Cedar Falls; Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Hedges and daughter Eva; Mrs. Frank Chope, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Friend, all of Marshalltown; Mr. and Mrs. John Holveck, Union; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Fisher, Harold Fitzgerald and Martin Mehlisch of St. Anthony; Joe Fitzgerald, Newton; H. J. Montgomery, Supt. Schindler, Mr. Coggshall, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bloomberg all of Nevada; Mr. and Mrs. Ora Fisch, Stanhope; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hilleman, State Center; Mr. and Mrs. Olaf Larson, Story Ciyt; Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Lounsberry, Colo; and many others from surrounding towns.

Ora Ellsworth Sparrow youngest son of Elmer and Nellie Sparrow was born July 1, 1901 at the family home near Zearing where the Ora Sparrow family now live. He attended the country school in the home neighborhood where he grew to young manhood. He farmed with his father until he was twenty-five years of age.

On March 10, 1926 he was united in marriage to Agnes Marie Austin of Eagle Grove, Iowa. To this union five children were born, Bary Ora, Norman Austin, Rosemary, Daniel Shaw and Sarah Jane. Rosemary and Daniel Shaw died in infancy.

Mr. Sparrow was taken to the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown on December 31, 1938 where he underwent and appendectomy operation. As a result of this illness he passed from thi life at 9 a. m. on Sunday, January 8, 1939.

Mr. Sparrow was a devoted husband and father. He was regular in his attendance in the services of the Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, and three children Mary Ora, age 11, Austin, age 7, and Sarah Jane, age 7 months; his father and mother, a sister, Mrs. Ambrose Johnston, two brothers, Ross and Earl Sparrow, all of Zearing.
