Funeral Services Monday Afternoon For Mrs. Thor Nerem

Roland, Feb. 5--Funeral services for the later Mrs. Thor Nerem who passed away Thursday from a heart ailment at the home of her son-in-law and daughter living near Garner were held Monday afternoon at Salem's church with the Rev. Olaf Holen in charge. Burial was made in the Roland cemetery.

Funeral services were also held at Forest City. Mrs. Nerem was born at Stole, Norway, Europe and would have been seventy-nine years in February.

She was married to Sigward Lusness [should be Sjusnas or Ljusens], he passed away and she later married Thor Nerem*. They lived in the Roland community for many years moving to Forest City approximately forty years ago.

She is survived by two daughters one living near Garner and the other at Peoria, Ill. and two step-sons, Eddie and Sam living near Forest City and one step-daughter, Mrs. Sylvan Bakken of Northwood.

Among those from a distance were a large number of friends and relatives from Forest City, Mrs. Knudtson, Mrs. Anna Nerem and Mrs. Martha Skeien of Story City, the Misses Nessa of Garden City, Mrs. N. O. Ihle and Otis Ihle of Slater and Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Lindroth of Des Moines.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Maria (Stodle) Sjusnas (according to her daughters' maiden name, this should be Ljusens or Ljusness) married Thor E. Nerem on 20 April 1909 in Roland, Story County, Iowa. On this marriage record she gave her parents name Torkel Stodle and Sigrid Eliason.
