DEATHS

Funeral services for Mrs. Bertina Handeland, 99, were held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brainerd, Minn. on Saturday afternoon, January 27 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Arthur Rimmereid in charge.

The organist was her granddaughter, Joy Handeland. She accompanied the soloist, Mrs. Nora Ellingson.

Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased, Gerald Handeland, Howard Handeland, John Handeland, Duane Young, Roland Nelson, John Brendeland. Burial was in the Bethel Cemetery at Brainerd.

Mrs. Bertina Handeland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lars Eide, was born July 8, 1868 south of Huxley and died at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines on January 24, 1968 at the age of 99 years, 6 months and 16 days.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and on December 8, 1889 she was married to John Handeland at Huxley. They lived several years in Iowa and moved to Brainerd, Minn. in 1897. To this union 12 children were born, three which died in infancy. Preceding her in death were her husband, John on March 9, 1931; two daughters, Mrs. Alice Nelson of Brainerd, Minn.; Mrs. Lydia Brendeland of Huxley and one son, Louis Handeland of Milwaukee, Wis. and three grandchildren.

She leaves to mourn her passing four daughters, Mrs. Marie Peckash of Des, Mrs. Nettie Letsos of Superior, Wisc., Mrs. Tillie Leavitt of Hollywood, Calif., Mrs. Mabel Young of Brainerd, Minn. and two sons, William and Lloyd Handeland of Brainerd, Minn.; 34 grandchildren; 69 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren.
