Last Rites for Arthur Stevens At Ree Heights, S.D.

Last Rites for Arthur Stevens, 77, who passed away at Ree Heights, S. D., Sunday were held Wednesday afternoon at Ree Heights. Burial was in the cemetery at that place.

Mr. Stevens, who was never married, had been a resident of South Dakota for the past 30 years.

Arthur Stevens, oldest son of S. B. and Dorcas Stevens, was born December 20, 1870, in Polk county, Iowa, and passed away March 30, 1947, in the hospital at Miller, S. D., after a brief illness.

At the age of five years, he moved with his parents to a farm in Story county, Iowa, where he attended the public schools and grew to manhood.

At the age of 21 he took up farming on his own, later engaging in the mercantile business at McCallsburg, Iowa.

About 1914 he located on a ranch in South Dakota, where he engaged in farming and stock raising. He later moved to Ree Heights, S. D., where he lived until his recent illness.

He leaves to mourn his passing seven sisters and five brothers. They are: Alice Buffington of Titonka; Hattie Carver of Zearing; Dorcas Webb of Colo; Edith Mather of Ames; Jennie B. Hix of Sioux City; Ethel Henson of Maxwell; Velma Chandler of Omaha, Nebraska; Bradford Stevens of Collins; S. W. Stevens of Des Moines; John I. Stevens of Marshalltown; Rev. W. J. Stevens of Washington; Iver G. Stevens of Nevada.

Three brothers, A. J., C. W. and Winford also one sister Thelma Aga, preceded him in death.

He also leaves a host of other relatives and friends--his friends being numbered only by his acquaintances.

He was a member of the Christian church, having joined when a young man.
