Funeral Services Held Sunday for Mrs. Emma Doolittle

Story City, April 2 -- Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the chapel in the Sunset Home in Story City for Miss Emma Doolittle, 82, who passed away at the hospital on Tuesday evening March 25, where she had been a patient since she suffered a heart attack about three weeks before Rev. E. R. Rorem officiated at the service. Mrs. Lester Henderson sang "Behold The Host," and "In The Sweet Bye and Bye," accompanied on the piano by Louise Olson.

Interment was in the Sheffield cemetery southeast of Story City.

A sum of money was given to the Sunset Home, the Memorial hospital and the Sheffield cemetery, in memory of the deceased.

Among those who attended the funeral were relatives from Gilmore City, Rolfe, Webster City, Woolstock, Jewell, Kamrar, Ames and Roland.

Emma Wilmetty Doolittle, the daughter of W. R. and Electa Doolittle, was born March 20, 1865 on the Doolittle homestead two and a half miles south of Story City. She received her education in the rural schools and lived on the farm for forty years. From there she moved to Roland where she and her mother lived nine and a half years. They then moved to Story City where Emma has lived since.

Emma lived a very sacrificial life having taken devoted care of her aged, blind mother for many years, and depriving herself of many things to make someone else happy, for which we know she will be justly rewarded.

She was also a very favorite aunt among her many nieces and nephews. She was baptized and became a member of the First Methodist Episcopal church of Ames, Iowa.

After entering the Sunset Home on October 20, 1943, she has worshipped there, always enjoying it to the fullest extent, being present at the Chapel services, if possible.

She was one of ten children, six boys and four girls, all having preceded her in death, except one brother, William Doolittle of Story City. She also leaves to mourn her death a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
