Last Rites for Mrs. Geo. Buffington Sr. Held Sunday Afternoon
Funeral services for the late Mrs. George Buffington, Sr. who passed away at her home in Nevada Wednesday morning, March 19, were held from the Colo Methodist church Sunday afternoon with the Rev. C. E. Lookingbill of Nevada officiating.
The music was by Rev. R. L. Russell and William Lounsberry of Colo with Mrs. Mydred Brinkman as pianist.
The many beautiful flowers were cared for by Ruth Miller and Helen Robinson.
The casket bearers were M. R. McCoy, Clayton Robinson, John Brouhard, William Buttry, Ralph Handsaker and Ray Hostettler. Interment was in the Colo cemetery.
The following brief life story was read by the officiating minister.
"Edith May Beal Buffington, daughter of Herman and Missouri Bal, was born July 30, 1882 at Lanark, Illinois and passed away at her home in Nevada on March 19, 1947. She came to Story County, with her parents in early childhood and settled at Collins. Later, they moved to Colo, where she was married to George Buffington on September 4, 1904.
To this union ten children were born. They are as follows: Irene Myers, Montrose, Colorado; Herman and Mabel at home; Gladys, Des Moines; Clifford, Colo; George D., Nevada; Darline, Des Moines; Isabelle Bredereck, Seattle, Washington; Beth Farrell, Oskaloosa; and Virgil Lee who died in infancy. Left to mourn her departure, aside from the immediate family are fifteen grandchildren, one great grandchild, other relatives and a host of friends. She also leaves five sisters and three brothers. Two preceded her in death.
The family moved to Nevada about two and a half years ago. On April 23, 1945, Mrs. Buffington suffered a stroke and had been bedfast ever since. During her long illness she was cared for by her daughters, Mabel and Darlene who gave her very tender care Mrs. Buffington was baptized in the Christian faith in her later years.
