Mrs. Henry Sherk Laid to Rest Tuesday Afternoon

Funeral services for Mrs. Henry Sherk, 69, who passed away at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames Saturday afternoon, May 10, where she had been a patient for five days, were held at the Morfoot Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 with the Rev. James D. Ransom of Central Presbyterian church officiating.

Many beautiful flowers banked the bier expressive of the high regard in which the deceased was held.

Mrs. Glover Ambrose accompanied Mrs. Lee Lowenberg, who sang "No Night There." Organ numbers included "The Lord's Prayer" and "Abide With Me."

The pall bearers were Harry Beal, M. L. Snyder, George Hansen, Paul Banks, Robert Dana and Al Peterson.

Committal was in the Nevada cemetery by the side of husband who passed away in Nevada ten years ago.

The officers of Nevada Chapter No. 296 Order of the Eastern Star attended the service in a body.

The following brief life story was read by Rev. Ransom who also brought a comforting message.

"Cora Bell Wright, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Wright, was born June 18, 1878 in Marshalltown, Iowa. During her childhood the family moved to Story County where she spent most of the rest of her life.

"On April 21, 1897 she was united in marriage with Henry Sherk. To this union were born four children: Vera, now Mrs. Guy Hutchinson of Ames; Harry of Nevada; Iola, now Mrs. Palmer Brendeland of Nevada; and Evelyn, now Mrs. Clay Taylor of Nevada.

"Mrs. Sherk was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church and the Woodman's Circle.

"Mr. Sherk passed away in 1937. After several years of failing health Mrs. Sherk passed away May 10, 1947. For a number of years she had made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Palmer Brendeland, 405 J avenue.

"She is survived by her four children, four grandchildren and by many friends that she had made throughout the years.

She is also survive by the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Elmer Terrill of Boone, Mrs. Minnie Eaton of Boone, Chas. Wright of Nevada, Ross Wright of Ames and Mrs. Mabel Hart of Des Moines.

Owings, Marshalltown; Mrs. Kenneth Reimenschneider, State Center; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Twerr and Mrs. Minnie Eaton of Boone; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Adams, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sills of Ames; Mrs. Geo. Horner, Jewell; Mrs. Jack Feigg, Davenport; Mrs. Mable Hait, Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Tesdall, Huxley; Mr. and Mrs. Ben Brendeland, Mrs. Arthur Buente of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Brendeland, and Mrs. Lena Brendeland of Kelley and Miss Myrtle Lanning, Mrs. Jewell Gossard, Mr. and Mrs. John Taylor, Mrs. Lydia White and a group of Younker employees from Ames.
