WILL GATES DIES THIS MORNING

A Well Known Citizen Passed Away

Although it was generally known that his recovery was impossible, there was nonetheless a sense of shock when word passed about the streets that Will Gates had passed away at 3:55 this morning. For weeks he has been fighting against tuberculosis which seemed to have come on him as a result of weakened condition brought on by influenza over two years ago. His condition has fluctuated, some days being somewhat encouraging and at other times occasioning much concern. But it was recognized to be a losing battle almost from the first. At the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Fred Gates, he has been the constant recipient of most watchful care. His sister, Mrs. Mable Wadsworth, came from Colorado some weeks ago, and these two ladies, together with the nurse, have met every need.

Mr. Gates had many friends whose interest in him prompted frequent inquiries and many calls, while flowers were constantly in his room.

Mr. Gates is the last local member of a family well known in Nevada. The father, William Gates, came with the family to Nevada in the sixties and engaged in the blacksmithing business, erecting the building in which the sons have, since the father's retirement, carried on the same work. The old home was in the present D. M. Grove residence. Mrs. Wadsworth is now the sole survivor of the family, the father and mother having passed away a number of years ago. Their son Fred died of influenza two and a half years ago, and the daughter, Janette, lived only 17 months.

William Robert Gates was born at Dundas, Ontario, September 30, 1866, and has resided in Nevada practically all of his life of nearly fifty-five years. During this time he has been a hard worker and a careful investor. He has had a large circle of friends among who he was influential.

Funeral service will be held at the residence of Mrs. Fred Gates, Saturday morning at ten o'clock, conducted by Rev. R. M. Shipman, and burial will be in the Nevada cemetery.
