OBITUARY OF FRANK DAVIS

Franklin Township Man Made The Supreme Sacrifice.

Special to the Journal.
Gilbert, Oct. 25--In the death of Frank M. Davis son of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Davis* of Franklin Township another supreme sacrifice has been added to the long roll of noble men who have dedicated their lives to the cause of making the world a safe place for humanity.

He was deprived of the privilege most desired by all this grand army of men that of going to France and having first hand experience in driving thee Hun from France and Belgium, and saving civilization.

Frank M. Davis was born April 9th, 1897, died at Camp Dodge, October 16th, 1918, he entered the service of the United States as a soldier September 6th, 1918, thus only a few weeks of service did he give, but his service was heroic and his death a supreme sacrifice for his country as if his service had been made longer and his life had closed on French soil.

October 26th, 1813 [should be 1913], under the leadership of Rev. Pardun, Frank Davis made a public profession of his faith in Jesus Christ and united with the congregation church at Gilbert. He was a young man of a sunny and happy spirit and made many strong friends, because he himself was friendly. He was numbered with that grand army, who have laid down their lives for a great ideal. His golden star is the first to be placed on the service flag of his church and will ever remind us of his heroic sacrifice.

He leaves father and mother and two brothers, Fred Davis and Howard Davis all of Franklin township with a host of friends. On account of the state wide order that no public funerals to be held, a short service was held in the home on Sunday afternoon. Rev. Wissler of the Gilbert church made a short address and Robert Clark sang two numbers. The body was laid to rest in the Ames cemetery.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Frank Morris Davis was the son of Chester F. Davis and Ada/Addie L. Morris.
