Claribel E. Larson, 95, of Ames died July 7 at Northcrest Retirement Community. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at the Northcrest Retirement Community. Burial is in Palestine Cemetery in Huxley.
Claribel E. Larson was born Sept. 13, 1909, in Spragueville to Harry S. and Hattie C. (Schroeder) Paup. She married Joseph T. Larson on Jan. 19, 1941, in Preston.
She graduated from Preston High School in 1927 and attended Iowa State Teachers College and Drake University. She taught in Cambridge. She was a housemother at Westmar College for three years and at Iowa State University from 1965 - 1973. She retired in 1976. She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church and Golden Agers. She also lived in Lost Nation, Lake City, Cambridge and Madera, Calif.
She is survived by her son, Bruce E. Larson and his wife, Kathy Fernbach of Minneapolis; a daughter, Karen E. Stansbery and her husband, Bill Stansbery of Ames; two sisters, Opal Mohr of Buffalo, N.Y. and LaVerne Tharp of Ottumwa; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph T. Larson, on May 2, 1956; one brother; and one infant sister.
Memorials may be directed to Northcrest Retirement Community in Ames.
The Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
