Mrs. Long Suicided By Inhaling Gas

Collins, Nov. 30--Mrs. Amanda Long, 72, took her own life by inhaling gas, at her apartment in Marshalltown early Tuesday, according to word received by her brothers, John and Charles Signs of this neighborhood. Mrs. Long was a longtime resident of the Rhodes neighborhood, where the family was well known.Mrs. Long was born Amanda Signs in Jasper county, June 29, 1860. She was married to John W. Long, March 11, 1880, in Jasper county, where she and Mr. Long continued to make their home for ten years. In 1890 they moved to a farm near Rhodes where they lived until 1916, when Mr. Long retired and they moved to Marshalltown where the husband died June 3, 1929.
Mr. and Mrs. Long were the parents of three daughters, all of whom survive the mother. They are Mrs. John Robinson, Mingo, Mrs. Leo Perry, Mitchellville and Mrs. D. W. Richeson, State Center. Three brothers, Leo Signs, Ira, now a patient in the hospital at Des Moines, and John and Charles Signs, of Collins, also survive.
