THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, July 7, 2005.

Carol J. Hansen, 82, of Webster City, died Tuesday, July 5, at Crestview Senior Living. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 9, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Grebner and the Rev. Doug Tiffany officiating.

Carol Jean Heedum, daughter of Halvor and Clara Wingate Heedum, was born Oct. 22, 1922, in Hartington, Neb. She received her education and graduated from Hartington High School in 1940. She worked as a secretary for the Selective Service System until her marriage to Arthur Henry Hansen on May 21, 1943. The following years were spent as a homemaker and mother.

Her husband's work took the family to Crofton, Neb., Webster City and Ames. In 1968, she went to work as a secretary at Iowa State University and worked there until she retired in 1984. In 1998, she and her husband returned to Webster City where they resided at the Crestview Apartments. He died on Nov. 14, 1999.

She is survived by her four sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Darlene Hansen of Fort Dodge, Timothy and Karen Hansen of Kent, Wis., David and Edith Hansen of Webster City, Todd and Leslie Hansen of Asheville, N.C.; grandchildren, Stacy Geopfert of Webster City, Brian Hansen of Chicago, Mark Hansen of Bothell, Wis., Christine Hansen of Simi Valley, Calif., John Hansen of Muscatine, Jill Hansen of Oklahoma City, and Matthew Hansen and Claire Hansen of Asheville, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jenna and Kailey Geopfert; and one sister; Evelyn Frerichs of Olympia, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; two brothers; and her husband, Arthur.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 8, at Foster Funeral & Cremation Center in Webster City, and prior to services Saturday, July 9, at the church.

She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1229 Kathy Lane, Webster City, IA 50595.
