NEVADA SHOCKED BY WOMAN'S DEATH

MRS. W. O. BENTHN PASSED AWAY WEDNESDAY NIGHT AT 9:50

The tragic death of Mrs. Benthin, 38, Wednesday evening at 9:50, was a distinct shock to the community as the word spread among the friends of the Presbyterian manse family.

Mrs. Benthin, wife of W. O. Benthin, the pastor of Central Presbyterian church, had given birth to a son early Monday morning. The child is doing nicely and things had apparently been well with Mrs. Benthin until Wednesday morning when complications developed and an emergency operation became necessary.

Definite announcement as to the funeral and interment cannot be made until word is received from her parents at Glendale, Calif. Interment will probably be in the Nevada cemetery, Mr. Benthin said today.

Ada M. Benthin, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur G. Mitchell, was born near Jesup, Iowa, May 4, 1894. While still in early youth her parents moved to a farm in Cherokee county. As her age for college drew near her family moved to Storm Lake. Here she took her bachelor of arts degree in 1916 from Buena Vista college. She then taught in the high school of Essex and Creston.

On Oct. 1, 1918 she was married to W. O. Benthin at Spokane, Washington, and with her husband she spent the next seven years in pastoral work and graduate study in Washington and Oregon. Immediately preceding coming to Nevada the Benthins resided at Storm Lake where Mrs. Benthin was children's librarian for the city. With her husband she came to Nevada about three years ago where she spent the remainder of her days.

On May second she gave birth to her only child, Bruce Mitchell. At first all seemed well but on May fourth toxic poison caused trouble. A second operation was performed to remove the trouble, but it a in vain, for at 9:51 p. m., she drew her last breath, death being due to acute paralysis of the bowels.

Besides her husband and son Mrs. Benthin leaves her parents in Glendale, California and sister with three children in Frezoport, India. Likewise she leaves a number of other but more distant relatives the majority of whom reside in this state.

Mrs. Benthin put her church, religion, and what it stands for, first. Besides the customary local church responsibilities, she was a constant missionary educator in wider circles. She has held state offices in missionary education in several instances.

She practically no interest in the conventional social groups unless they aimed at a high purpose for the good of all. The strength of her character and influence of life were such as does not require many words at a time like this: "Her works do follow her." Christ's spirit lived in her.
