Former Story County Woman Died in California

Mrs. Susie Ann Green, 67, early day resident of Story county, died at her home at Stockton, Calif. recently, according to word received by local relatives. Funeral services were conducted at Stockton and entombment was in the Casa Bonita mausoleum there.

Mrs. Green was the daughter of John T. and Sarah E. Smith and was born on the Hand homestead east of Maxwell. Later her people moved to Maxwell where her girlhood days were spent.

While at Omaha she met and married Charles Green and spent a year there and in Nebraska and North Dakota, returning to Iowa Center in 1887. She spent several years around Iowa Center and Maxwell and other places in Story county. She moved to Des Moines from Maxwell and other places in Story county. She moved to Des Moines from Maxwell, spent several years there and went from there to California, some 16 years ago.

She leaves to mourn her departure, nine children: Mrs. J. B. Deaton, Mrs. Melvin Hammet [should be Hammett], Mrs. Ralph Hammet, Miss Fern Green and Waldo E. Green all of Stockton, Joseph W. Green, Omaha, Neb., Charles A. Green of Modesto, Calif., Harry R. Green of El Cerrito, Calif., and Mrs. R. C. Teeter [should be Teter] of St. James, Minn. She also leaves ten grandchildren and also five brothers. They are George Smith of Iowa Center, Charles T. Smith, Maxwell, Warren Smith, of Woodburn, Iowa; F. R. Smith of Butterfield, Minn.; Harry Smith, of Madelia, Minn.; three sisters, Mrs. Han Allen of Ackworth, Iowa; Mrs. Rowena Hormel of Maxwell, Mrs. Sarah E. Watts, State Center. There is also a host of other relatives and friends here, who will join the children in sympathy in this their time of grief over the taking of such a loving mother.
