Watkins Funeral Service Friday

The funeral services for Charles Watkins, 68, who died at Iowa City, Wednesday, were held Friday afternoon at the home of the daughter, Mrs. Delbert Dickenson [should be Dickinson], south of Colo an interment was in the Colo cemetery. The service was conducted by Rev. C. E. Lookingbill.

Charles E. Watkins, second son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Watkins, was born at Zanesville, Ohio, July 15, 1865, and at the time of his death had reached the age of 68 years, 1 month and 1 day.

He was but one year of age when the parents came out to Iowa, settling first near New Providence. There he grew to manhood and in 1886 was united in marriage to Miss Emma Spake, who with the one daughter, Lena, now Mrs. Delbert Dickinson, survives the husband and father.

Shortly after his marriage to Miss Spake they moved to Story county and here the family home has since been. he had been in failing health for about a year.

Besides these he leaves two grandchildren, two brothers and five sisters. The brothers are Eddie Watkins of Cedar Rapids and Carry Watkins of Olds, Alberta, Canada. The sisters are Mrs. Della Moore of Collins, Mrs. Bessie Herd [should be Heard] of Carpenter, Mrs. Ellen Baldwin and Mrs. Cora Richardson of Glendale, Cal., and Sadie Grinter [should be Ginter] of Stron, S. D.
