John William Wampler was born on October 17, 1857, at Bloomington, Ill. Here he grew to manhood, leaving the home at the age of 20 and going to Kansas to work. On November 20, 1879 he was married to Miss Hannah Barnes in Sedgwick county, Kansas, where they established their home, moving from there to Sumner county, Kansas, where they lived until in February, 1902, when they moved to Story county, Iowa, locating near Colo. They remained on the farm until March of 1924, when they moved to their present home in Nevada. To Mr. and Mrs. Wampler nine children were born, three daughters and six sons, the three daughters and three of the sons having preceded him in death. The living sons are Roy of Colo; Orville of Bayard and Henry of Des Moines.

About a year ago Mr. Wampler had a severe attack of flu, since which he has been in failing health. The past week was such a cause alarm and he went to the Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines for treatment and after a week of rapid decline he passed away on June 11, 1925, at the age of 67 years, 7 months and 24 days. He was the youngest of his father's family and the last surviving member leaving to mourn his death the wife, three sons, six grandchildren, a niece, some other distant relatives and many friends. He was a good and upright citizen, a dutiful father, faithful companion and well respected by all who knew him. The memory of life will be cherished by the sorrowing ones who survive him.
