Funeral Services for William R. McKee

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Methodist Episcopal church for William R. McKee, of Nevada township, who died March 13, after a lingering illness of heart trouble. The services conducted by Rev. C. E. Lookingbill, assisted by Rev. George A. Lawton were attended by a large concourse of relatives and old neighbors and friends. The body was laid to rest in the Nevada cemetery.

William Robert McKee, son of Hezekiah and Jane McCall McKee, was born in Champaign county, Illinois, March 7, 1864 and died at his home south of Nevada, March 13, 1933. He was 69 years and six days old at the time of his death.

When he was a small boy the family moved to Iowa. They first located in Polk county, then later in Jasper county. When he was thirteen the family moved to Story county and settled on a farm six miles northeast of Nevada.

On August 31 he united in marriage with Judy Martin. She died Jan. 23, 1897. To this union three children were born. All of the children preceded the father in death.

In October 1898 he married Bessie Hutchins [should be Hitchings], who passed away the following August.

He united in marriage with Eva Krugler Knox at Marshalltown Dec. 21, 1904. To this union two sons were born. They are Ray of Nevada and Kenneth who is at home with the mother. Shortly after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. McKee located on the farm southeast of here where they have lived continuously since.

During his life time Mr. McKee, known to his friends as "Billy" formed a very large circle of friends. He formed these friendships because of his personality and the interest which he took in them and in community affairs. He served one term as township trustee. His health has been failing for the past four years. Last October he was confined to the home. He was a patient sufferer through the past weeks of suffering, thinking always of the convenience of his family who did everything possible for his comfort.

He leaves to mourn their loss besides the wife and two sons, two grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Ella Corbin of Nevada, other relatives and a large circle of friends who will miss him but will cherish his memory.

Relatives and friends from a distance who were here for the funeral were Mrs. Rebeca Krugler, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Krugler, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil McCall and daughters of Des Moines, C. W. Krugler, Rockford, Mrs. John McCall and Mrs. Edna Pruitt of Ames, Mrs. Oliver Hopkins, Mrs. Erma Berrymore of Runnells, Henry Fischer of Dixon, Ill., Rollie McKee of Marshalltown and many others.
