Well Known Colo Woman Laid to Rest

Special to the Journal.
Colo, Nov. 11--Funeral services for Fannie Brand-Smith, who died at her home south of Colo on November 3, were held at the Colo Evangelical church with Rev. L. H. Wood in charge, assisted by Rev. Charles Pickford of Nevada. Interment was in the Colo cemetery.

The deceased was one of the well known women of the community and the funeral was largely attended.

As Fannie Brand, she was born in DeKalb county, Illinois, August 16, 1872, the second daughter of Charles C. and Mary M. Brand. The mother died when she was about ten years of age and the only sister two years later.

On July 2, 1884, her father was united in marriage to Miss Mary A. Shepherd, who has been a real mother to her. Mr. Brand moved to Iowa the same year, and settled on a farm near Colo.

On Aug. 16, 1930, she was united in marriage to T. M. Smith. The deceased was converted when a child, and united with the Evangelical church in Colo, in 1909. She was active in the Woman's Missionary society. She was awarded two medals in the Women's Missionary society oratorical contests. The medals were silver and gold.

She leaves to mourn her loss a loving and devoted husband, a stepmother who loved her as her own child. Besides these her friends are numbered by all who knew her.
