Funeral Services for Christopher Ersland

Special to the Journal.
Slater, July 11--Funeral services for Christopher Ersland were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the home and two o'clock at the Bethlehem church.

The services were in charge of Rev. E. R. Rorem, assisted by Rev. P. Buland of Cambridge. Many beautiful floral offerings surrounded the casket.

The Woman's Auxiliary society, Miss Anna Lundahl and mother, Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Viland of Denver and his wife, all gave money to the mission in his memory.

A quartete composed of Andrew Maland, Olaf Austine, Dewey Fausch and Homer Lewis sang "There's a Land That Is Fairer Than Day" and "My Jesus, I Love Thee;" Homer Lewis sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and Mrs. M. S. Heggen sang "Den Store Hvide Flok." The pall bearers were Knute Ersland of Armstrong, Nels Ersland of Huxley, Luther Severston of near Ames, J. C. Ersland, Harold Ersland and Kermit Askland.

Christopher Ersland was born in Shold, Norway, March 22, 1855 and died July 5th at the University hospital at Iowa City. He came to America in 1866, with his parents, three brothers and a sister. He was confirmed in the Palestine congregation when 15 years old.

He married Miss Lizzie Helene Askland. They made their home on a farm east of Slater. He was a kind and loving husband. He is survived by his wife and two brothers Henry and Christ Ersland of Slater.
