MRS. IVER SAMPSON

Mrs. Guro Sampson was born April 16, 1843, at Ore, Hardanger, Norway, and died at her home in Roland, July 9, 1935, at the age of 92 years, 2 months and 23 days.

She came to this country in 1864 to Clinton, Iowa, where she was united in marriage in 1866 to Iver Sampson. They continued to live in Clinton for ten years and moved to Story County in 1876 where they settled on a farm four miles southeast of Roland which was their home for 23 years. They then moved to Roland where she has since resided.

Eleven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Sampson, two of whom have passed away. One died in infancy, and Mrs. Carrie Vallen died in 1906. He leaves his aged wife, who is 87 years old, four daughters, Mrs. Annie Erickson, Windom, Minn.; Mrs. Emma Solomonson, Storden, Minn.; Mrs. Sadie Olson, Heron Lake, Minn., and Mrs. Christine Larson, Roland, and five sons, Sam, Thomas, Oscar, Edward and Iver, all of this community. She also leaves 49 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Sampson was at the time of her death the third oldest person living in this community. She had been in good health until two months ago when she fell on the floor at her home and fractured a bone in her hip. She was unable to recover from her injury and died after being confined to her bed the last two months. Her daughter, Mrs. Larson, had made her home with her mother for the last eight years, taking care of her in her old age and also her father while he lived. Mr. Sampson died June 21, 1930, and was 87 years old at the time of his death.

The funeral was held at the home and at Bergen Lutheran Church, of which she was a member, on Friday afternoon, Rev. M.O. Sumstad officiating, assisted by Rev. O. Amdalsrud. Interment was made in the Roland Cemetery. The pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased, Theodore, Mervin, Ivan and Arnold Sampson, Amel Vallen and Erick Erickson. Musical numbers were a solo, "Den Store Hvide Flok Vi Se," by Otto J. Hanson, and "Some Day the Silver Cord will Break," by the Bergen Women's Chorus.

Among those from other places in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Erickson, Mrs. Walter Mead, Amel Vallen and Erick Erickson of Windom, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Thom. Solomonson of Storden, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. O.A. Olson and children, Marion and Erma of Heron Lake, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Otis Thorsbakken and Mrs. Eli Munson of Story City; Mr. and Mrs. H.L. Huddleston of Nevada; Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Bakka of Ames; Mrs. Inger Sampson, Sam, Silas and Joe Sampson, Mrs. Sadie Pickett, Christ Sampson, Mrs. John Sime, Julia, John, Sam and Eddie Sime of Radcliffe.
