THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, June 22, 2005.
Lily Viola Hill, 89, of Huxley, died Tuesday, June 21, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 24, at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley with the Rev. Tom Hilger officiating. Burial will be in Fjeldberg Church Cemetery.
Lily Viola Hill was born March 28, 1916, in Saskatoon, Saskatchawan, Canada, daughter of Edwards and Nellie (Cory) Higgins. She married Beverly Hill Nov. 1, 1935, in Des Moines and moved to Huxley from Elkhart following the wedding. She owned and operated Hill's Grocery on Main Street in Huxley with her husband in the early 1960s. She was a waitress at King's Host Restaurant in Ames until health problems forced her retirement in 1973.
She is survived by her husband, Beverley Hill of Huxley; two daughters, Nona (Phillip) Jordan and Phyllis Geer, both of Huxley; five grandchildren, Jim (and Sherry), Don and Brian Jordan, Scott and Chad Geer; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Grace Scott, Retta Harvey, Kate Sorenson-Anderson and Edna Hayden; and one brother, Dayton Higgins.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 23, at Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Fjeldberg Lutheran Church.
Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater is in charge of arrangements.
