Newhard Funeral Services at Collins

Collins, May 22--Funeral services for the late Delmar J. Newhard of Pontiac, Mich., who met death in an auto accident in Des Moines, Wednesday evening, May 15, was held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Church of Christ in Collins with burial in Evergreen cemetery. Rev. C. E. Lookingbill of Nevada, long time friend of the family, was in charge of the services and brought a comforting message to the bereaved relatives and friends. A quartette composed of Mrs. L. M. Hall, Mrs. Geo. Holmes, J. G. Gingle and J. R. Witmer with Mrs. Hugh Fertig at the piano sang "Rock of Ages," "Face to Face," "Upper Gardens" and "Abide With Me."

Mrs. Ora Hanson and Mrs. O. N. Serbein cared for the floral offerings which were numerous and very beautiful bearing mute testimony to the love-esteem in which he was held by his employers and associates. The pallbearers, close friends of the deceased, were Keith Myers, Virgil Carney, Ross Pearson, Merle Devilbliss, R. D. McCord and L. W. Van Dran. A large circle of friends from Farrar, Elkhart and Maxwell were present at the services to pay their last respects. Those from a distance being Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Huggins and Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Carr of Pontiac, Mich., Mrs. Jeanette Newhard and Wilber Martens of Des Moines.

Delmar John Newhard was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Milo Newhard of Wilmington, Calif., and was born Oct. 20, 1907 at Des Moines. When but six month of age he moved with his parents to Montana where they lived for a number of years. Upon returning to Iowa they lived in the vicinity of Elkhart and Maxwell where he attended school and grew to manhood. In 1926 he went to Pontiac, Mich. and obtained employment with the General Motors Truck Co., remaining in the employ until the time of the tragic accident.

On March 11, 1930 he was united in marriage to Belle N. Vasey at Maxwell, returning immediately to Pontiac, where they have made their home for the past five years. He is survived by his wife, who was with him visiting friends at the time of accident, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Milo Newhard, sisters Verna and Marjorie and a brother Arthur of Wilmington, Cal., and a grandmother Mrs. Jeanette Newhard of Des Moines. Many other relatives and a host of friends mourn his untimely passing. When word was received at Pontiac of his death, the factory where he had been employed for so long, stopped operation for a time while employers and employees paid respect to one they had known and respected.

He was a young man who commanded the respect and love of those he came in contact with ever thinking of others and their welfare. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the wife and relative in this their hour of bereavement.
