COLLINS PIONEER CALLED BY DEATH

THOS. SWALWELL, 91, RESIDENT THERE FOR MANY YEARS

Special to the Journal.
Collins, May 21--Thomas Swalwell, 91, pioneer farmer and stockman of southwest of this place, died at 730 last evening on the home farm where he had spent over 62 years of his married life. Heart trouble and complications were the cause of death.

Funeral services will be held from the home Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 and burial will be in the old Peoria cemetery.

Mr. Swalwell, born near Scarboro, England, March 19, 1844, came to America as a boy and finally landed in this community where he took up his home and was married May 7, 1872 to Miss Harriett Kimberley, who with their sons and daughters, besides a large group of grandchildren and great grandchildren, survive him.

The family home was established on a farm southwest of Collins, over the line in Jasper county. There Mr. and Mrs. Swalwell worked and prospered; added to their acres as their family grew became one of the largest, most prosperous and respected families in the community. As a farmer and livestock breeder and feeder he was widely known as a husband, father and neighbor he was unsurpassed.

Both the fiftieth and sixtieth anniversaries anniversaries of their marriage were celebrated in the family home, with all of the children present.

The children are Thomas Swalwell, the eldest, at home; Mrs. Andrew Oswalt of near Dolliver; Mrs. James Oswalt of near Colo; Mrs. Oliver Vilas of near Storm Lake; Charles Swalwell of near Maxwell; James and Oliver Swalwell of near Collins; Chris Swalwell of near Redwood Falls, Minn.; Mrs. George Patterson of Jackson, Wyoming; Miss Belva Swalwell of Ames and Iva and Ada Swalwell at home.
