Funeral Services at Iowa Center for Mrs. Lewis Kitchen

Funeral services for Mrs. Lewis Kitchen, 69, who died at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines Saturday, were held Tuesday afternoon at the church in ----- -------- with Rev. C. E. Lookingbill of Nevada in charge. Interment will be in the Iowa Center cemetery.

The services were largely attended by a gathering of relatives and old neighbors and friends.

Jennie Virginia Bennethum was born April 28, 1866, to John and Mary Bennethum in Cedarville, Ill., and died at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines on May 4, 1935, at the age of 69 years and 6 days.

When a child of 5 years she moved with her parents to a farm near Iowa Center. On March 6, 1896, she was united in marriage to Lewis Kitchen and with him made their home in Iowa Center where they lived until 1904, when they moved to the Kitchen homestead north and east of Iowa Center. She lived there until she went to the Lutheran hospital on the advice of her physician. An X-ray photograph was taken which revealed a serious abdominal condition. For a week following her second operation she was improving steadily, and her sudden death from a blood clot came as a distinct shock to everyone.

She leaves to mourn her loss her husband and eight children, Ina, Forrest, Cecil, Mrs. Beulah Johnson, Mrs. Mary Adams, Mrs. Vera Osborn, Mrs. Alice Beard and Theodore. She is also survived by two brothers, George Bennethum of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Will Bennethum of Madrid, Iowa, besides seven grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Her father, mother, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

She was a loving mother and her home and family always came first in her life and thoughts. She will be greatly missed by every one who knew her.
