Funeral Services Held Today for Mrs. Martin Mehlisch

Special to the Journal.
State Center, May 7--Funeral services for Mrs. Martin Mehlisch, pioneer woman of eastern Story county, who died at her home here Sunday afternoon, were held today at 2:00 at St. Paul's Lutheran church here, after short services at the home. Burial was at Hillside cemetery. The services were in charge of Rev. A. H. Schultz.

She was born May Riese, Jan. 6, 1857 at Trachhausen, Branderburg, Germany, and at the age of 6 came to Canada with her parents. Eleven years later the family moved to Iowa and settle in Story county.

Her marriage to Martin Mehlisch took place Nov. 2, 1882 in the French Grove Lutheran church. Mr. and Mrs. Mehlisch made their home in Kossuth county for several years and then moved to a from northwest of State Center where they made their home until 1918, the year they moved into State Center.

Surviving are the widower, four sons, Christ of St. Anthony, William and Martin of Zearing, and John of Colo; and two daughters, Mrs. Otto Richter of Colo, and Mrs. Henry Hamelow [should be Hamelau] of Winnebago, Minn. One daughter preceded the mother in death. Two brothers, Chris and Matthew Riese of near State Center, 25 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.
