THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, May 16, 1901, page 8, column 2. "A SAD ACCIDENT- On Sunday evening the community was saddened by the news of the fatal accident which occurred to the seven year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Weir, east of Colo. The little girl had seemed in higher spirits than usual all day and had been playfully picking on her fifteen year old brother, when he, thinking to give his sister a romp, started on a chase to the barn and ran up the steps to the hay mow, when it entered his head to throw down a fork full of hay and cover her lightly, which he did but in some way the fork sprang away enough to miss part of the hay, yet went with considerable force before he could stop it, down where the little girl was standing when the tine entered her eye, piercing the brain almost to the back of her head. The brother carried her to the house but before a doctor could be secured, life was extinct. It was a very sad accident and the family have the sincere sympathy of the community. Ida M. Weir was born October 2, 1893, died May 5, 1901, aged seven years, seven months and three days. The funeral services were held at the united Evangelical church, conducted by Rev. J. M. Bamford on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30. Interment was in the Colo cemetery. - Colo Banner
