Funeral Services for Severt Winsett at Hauge Free Church

Special to the Journal.
Slater, Feb. 6--Funeral services for Severt J. Winsett were held Saturday afternoon, 1:30 at the home and 2:00 o'clock at the Hauges Free church. The services were in charge of his pastor, Rev. J. Loland, assisted by Rev. E. R. Rorem.

The many beautiful floral offerings were in charge of the Misses Edith Eide and Lillian Sydness. The song, "Does Jesus Car," was sung by Misses Esther Sydness and Helen Klonglan. Mrs. M. S. Heggen sang a Norwegian song, "Fly Som En Fugl."

The pall bearers were Martin Helland, Crus Sydness, Tony Zagar, Severt Houge, G. T. Eide and N. R. Sydness. Burial was made in the Slater cemetery.

Severt J. Winsett was born March 31, 1846 in Laugstad, Norway and died at his home in Slater, Wednesday, January 30th at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 29 days. His marriage to M. Bena Erickson took place November 4, 1880 in Norway.

They came to America May 20, 1882 and made their home in Sheldahl.

In the year 1887 they moved to Slater, being charter citizens. Five children blessed this union His wife and two children have preceded him in death. Two sons and a daughter are left to mourn his loss, namely Edwar, Simon and Mrs. Bertha Rood.

Mr. Winsett lived a quiet and unassuming life, he was highly respected, a devoted Christian and a loving father. He will be missed by a score of friends.

The following gave sums of money to the missions in his memory: The Ladies' Aid of the Hauges Free Church, $3 for Home Missions; Willing Workers $2 for Home Missions; Mrs. Malinda Queensland $1 for Home Missions; Rev. A. J. Evenson and family of Sherman, S. D., $5 for Foreign Missions. The children also gave a sum in memory of their father.
