Funeral Services for Mrs. Seward Nelson

Huxley, Jan. 21--Funeral services for Mrs. Seward Nelson were held Wednesday afternoon. Short services were held at the Albert Hill residence at Cambridge at 1:00 o'clock, and at the Fjeldberg church at Huxley at 2:00 p. m., in charge of Dr. J. N. Andersen the local pastor and Rev. Vogel of Des Moines. Rev. Vogel spoke on the 6th verse of the 23rd Psalm, "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." Dr. Andersen's text was "Whether we live of die, we are the Lord's." There were two vocal solos, "Wings of Snow" and "Come Ye Disconsolate," sung by Mrs. L. S. Kloster of Des Moines and a hymn, "I Know of a Sleep in Jesus Name" was sung by the audience. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. There were several donations to the missions in her memory, by groups of relatives and also the ladies' aid of which she was an active member when she lived near Huxley.

Her grandsons served as pallbearers.

Interment was in the Fjeldberg cemetery.

Sarah Helen Fatland-Nelson was born of the parents, Haldor and Manglia Fatland, in Polk county January 6, 1867. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Fjeldberg church until her death.

On March 7th, 1889 she was married to Seward Nelson, son of Andrew and Martha Nelson. Her husband departed from this life on June 17th, 1924. To this union 6 children were born, namely, Mrs. Mathilda Hill and Mrs. Clara Mead of Cambridge, Mrs. Selma Stearns and Miller of Des Moines, Eldon of Northwood and Hazel of San Diego, Calif.

With her husband and children she lived for many years on a farm about five miles southeast of Huxley. Later the family moved to Cambridge where she lived until a couple of years ago, when she moved to Des Moines where she lived with some of her children.

She was the last of a family of 10 children. She is survived by the six children, all of whom were with her in the final illness and at the funeral with the exception of Clara who is ill, and Hazel of San Diego. There are also 16 grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.

Mrs. Nelson, who filled her 68th year the Sunday before she passed away has been remarkably well all her life. She was taken ill with pneumonia and complications and removed to the Mercy hospital on Monday, Jan. 7th. She passed away at 11:45 p. m., Jan. 13th, 1935.

There were many from a distance in attendance at the funeral.
