COLO MAN DIED IN GAS FILLED ROOM

REED NILAND'S BODY LOCATED IN TOURIST CABIN IN DES MOINES

The body of M. Reed Niland, 34, well known Colo business man, was found in a gas filled room of tourist cabin in Des Moines Tuesday night at 8:00.

Niland had been in Des Moines for a number of days and had registered for single nights at various hotels.

When found he was in a room thoroughly saturated with gas from two jets that had been opened.

Niland, who would have been thirty-four years of age on January 3, was associated with his uncle C. R. Reed in the operation of a gasoline service station and tourist camp at the intersection of Highways No. 65 and 30, in the northeast corner of the town of Colo.

He leaves his wife and two small daughters, as well as numerous other relatives and a wide circle of friends.

His continued absence from home had been the matter of much concern on the part of his family and they had instituted a search in Des Moines which resulted in the finding of the body of a man, a victim of asphyxiation in the cabin at the tourist camp at 1721 East Grand avenue. The body was taken to the Harbach Funeral home.

Acting Coroner W. B. Chase of Polk county, after investigating the case, said that is had the appearance of a case of suicide by asphyxiation.

No funeral arrangements have as yet been made.

Reed Niladn was born at Colo Jan. 3, 1901, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Niland.

He was united in marriage June 21, 1924 to Florence Russell, at Lake Forest, Illinois.
