MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, January 25, 1894, page 5.

“OBITUARY – Watkins – Ann Jones was born in Radnorshire, Wales, Oct. 4, 1821. Died at her home three miles east of Maxwell, Iowa, Jan 10, 1894, after an illness of about ten days, aged 72 years and three months. She came to America in the fall of 1854, and settled in New Jersey. She was married to Walter Watkins June 16, 1857. In 1859 they moved to Saratoga, N.Y., where they resided until May 1870, when they moved to Iowa, and settled in Story Co. She became a member of the Church of England when 16 years of age. Her husband died in 1878, since which time she lived a widow. She was the mother of three daughters, the eldest of which, Annie, died in 1875. The others are Mrs. Wm. Pritchard, Mrs. A. Beach, the former living near the old home, and the latter on the old homestead. The funeral took place on Thursday 18th at 11 a.m., the services being held at the house, Rev. Ferguson in charge, and Rev. Bodenham assisting, after which the remains were taken to Iowa Center, and laid beside those of her husband and daughter. Mrs. W. leaves one brother in this country, Wm. Jones, living near the Mt. Zion church, in Polk county. In her death one of the old land marks, in this part of the county, has been removed. She was a woman of strong individuality and much force of character, and will be much missed by her children and neighbors. We sympathize with the family in their loss.”
