Mrs. Lewis Helland was Buried Sunday

Gunvor Maria Haukoos was born Oct. 10, 1870 in Haugesund, Norway. Her parents were Mathias and Mari Haukoos. In 1893 she came to America and was married to Lewis Helland in 1895. Ten children were born to this union, only seven survive and thirteen grandchildren.

He husband and the following children survive, Arthur, Forest City; Blanch Huntrods, Compton, Calif.; Allen, Whittier, Calif.; Leonard, Los Angeles, Calif.; Gladyn Hangartner, Casper, Wyo.; Berdella Kulow, Algona; Ernest, Forest City.

The three children who preceded the mother in death were Leslie who died at the age of 11 years; and two daughters, who died in infancy.

The five step children are: Peter at Scarville, Iowa; Jennie Sampson, Roland; Alma Hanson, Forest City; Clara Peterson, Nevada; Levi, Forest City, who died last July 12.

Her only brother died in Norwegian sea service and her sister died in America.

Until 1924 Mrs. Helland live on a farm with her family, southeast from Roland, when she moved to Cedar Falls, to live for two years. They moved to Forest City in 1926 where she lived until death came.

She was a member of the Bergen Lutheran church at Roland until they moved to Forest City where she became a member of the Emanuel Lutheran church and ladies aid.

Mrs. Helland has been in ill health for several years, but did not become bedfast until Nov. 28, 1934. On December 26 at 1:30 p. m., she had a stroke and died, Dec. 27 at 9:00 p. m.

Mrs. Helland was 64 years, 2 months and 17 days at the time of her death. All the children except the three in California, were present at their mother's funeral.

Funeral services were held at the home in Forest City at 9:30 Sunday and from the Bergen Lutheran church in Roland. Burial was in the Roland cemetery.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Cornelius Lura, Tobe Peterson and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Olson of Thompson, Iowa; Ove Anderson, Forest City; Nels Oakland, Emmons, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. P. C. Peterson and Mrs. Ford Karges, Nevada; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Gore, Ames and others.
