JOSIAH WESTCOTT

COLLINS--A military funeral was held for Josiah Westcott Wednesday afternoon in the Christian church, Rev. Robert McDonald officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Florence Mead on the organ and Mrs. Mary Tomlinson who sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden."

Casket bearers were Lloyd Holland, Andrew Johnson, Clyde Keagle, William Fitzgerald, Byron Keagle and Everett Hall.

Flowers were cared for by Mercie Wear and Ruth Hundtrods.

Life Sketch

Josiah Westcott, only son of Jasper and Nancy Westcott, was born in Dunbar, Neb. on April 21, 1889, and died Feb. 15, 1959 at the Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 69 years, 9 months and 27 days.

He came with his parents to Iowa in his early childhood where he grew to manhood and worked as a railroad worker. Later he went to Maxwell and after retiring he went to Perry to live. The last year he went to live with a niece, Mrs. Clyde Rhoades in Indianola and entered the hospital July 8, 1958.

He was in the service of his country during World War I.

Mr. Westcott was preceded in death by all of his immediate family and is survived by only nieces, nephews and cousins. His sisters were Mrs. Lottie O'Neil Youngquist, Mrs. Minnie Kassel and Mrs. Lillian Kassel. He was never married.

Interment was in Evergreen cemetery at Collins. Brouhard's Funeral Service of Zearing was in charge and the Collins Freland-Carver Post No. 81 of the American Legion gave full military honors with firing squad and taps by John Tiffany.
